Jules César n’a jamais été empereur. Il a été nommé consul puis proconsul et parvient finalement au titre d’imperator en 45 av. L’Imperator est le titre attribué aux généraux romains vainqueurs, lors de leur retour de campagne militaire. Dans la culture populaire il est attribué faussement au titre d’empereur romain.
